Tanya Ferguson is a proud second-generation member of Local 3, IBEW. She was born and raised in Brooklyn and graduated from H. Frank Carey High School in Franklin Square.

Tanya began her journey in the electrical trade as a college helper for two summers before officially starting her apprenticeship in November 2000. In 2004, she earned an associate degree from the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies at SUNY Empire State College and her ‘A’ journeyperson’s card. Dedicated to lifelong learning, Tanya continues to enhance her skills by participating in courses offered by the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund.

Tanya’s leadership skills have been recognized throughout her career. She was elected by her peers to the Wage and Policy Committee and later appointed to the 2013 Negotiating Committee. During the General Membership meeting on March 9, 2017, it was announced that Tanya had been elected to the Executive Board, filling the unexpired term of sister Maureen Steiger.

In her pursuit of higher education, Tanya returned to the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies at SUNY Empire State College to complete her bachelor’s degree in labor studies. She currently serves as a shop steward.
