From Queens to Albany, Local 3 members are showing their support for Metropolitan Park, which promises to create 23,000 good-paying jobs and revamp the 50 acres of asphalt surrounding Citi Field. It is one of eight proposed projects seeking approval by the Gaming Facility Location Board (GFLB) for three downstate casino licenses by the end of this year. Most recently, Local 3 "A" journeyman and Allied Club legislative chair Kenny Cohen got a pro-Metropolitan Park op-ed published on QNS.com.
"I support Metropolitan Park because they made a commitment to put the entire Queens community first,” writes Kenny Cohen, a second-generation member of Local 3 and lifelong resident of Electchester, only five miles away from the proposed site for Metropolitan Park. “What’s even more promising is that this project is committed to Queens-first hiring – putting my local union brothers and sisters front and center."
