Years in the making, the Empire Wind 1 and 2, Beacon Wind, and Sunrise Wind projects are nearing completion of the permitting process and entering the construction stage. However, they are running up against some local opposition fueled by scare tactics and climate change denial.
On Wednesday, October 11th, the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC), which regulates the electric, gas, water, and telecommunications industries, is holding Information Sessions and Public Hearings in Long Beach, NY, specifically related to the cable connections for Equinor’s Empire 2 offshore wind project. The hearings will take place in two sessions at 1:00 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m. at the Long Beach City Hall Community Chamber on the 6th floor.
There will be a rally organized by the Wind Works Coalition – labor, environmental, and community groups – happening beforehand at 12:00 noon in the plaza in front of Long Beach City Hall. Please make an effort to attend both the rally and public hearings, especially if you are an active or retired member of Local 3 residing in Long Beach, Island Park, or nearby. The rally will publicly demonstrate organized labor’s support for combating climate change while creating good union jobs, which will benefit the entire community.
