On July 2, 2016, Trustees of the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund gathered at the Educational Center in Cutchogue, Long Island for the purpose of celebrating with former Local 3 contractor and Trustee of the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund Walter D. Whitelaw as the new picnic pavilion was dedicated in his honor.
Walter D. Whitelaw is a graduate of Polytech Institute of Brooklyn and founded the Whitelaw Electrical Contracting Company in 1951. He has given his time and energy in the many fields of the electrical industry as a past trustee of Safety Trade Group No. 462, the Electrical Employers Self Insurance Safety Plan and as past president of the Association of Electrical Contractors. Mr. Whitelaw served as a trustee of the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund, the JIB Realty Corp., an alternate to the Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry and Vice President of the Association of Electrical Contractors. He served as chairman of the Business Development Committee of the Electrical Industry and the Telephone Interconnect Committee of the Electrical Industry.
Director of the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund Michael Yee opened the ceremony by congratulating Mr. Whitelaw, his wife Phyllis and their daughters Jane and Debra. Michael then introduced Joint Industry Board Chairman Dr. Gerald Finkel. Dr. Finkel congratulated Mr. Whitelaw on his special day and spoke about Mr. Whitelaw’s many accomplishments in the electrical industry throughout his long career.
Local 3 Business Manager Christopher Erikson was next to the microphone. He remarked on Mr. Whitelaw’s long history and dedication to the unionized electrical contracting industry as well as his strong support and dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, of which Mr. Whitelaw achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on April 23, 1947. Business Manager Erikson then invited Mr. Whitelaw to the microphone where he thanked the officers of Local 3 and the Trustees of the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund for this very humbling honor in his name.
Mr. Whitelaw then cut the ceremonial ribbon on the Walter D. Whitelaw Pavilion and lunch was served to all the guests.
