On Saturday, November 7, 2015 members of Local 3 from the Outside Line Division were practicing their climbing skills at the Local 1049 training facility located in Hauppauge Long Island. OSHA 1910.269(a)(2)(i) requires that workers be trained in and familiar with the safety-related work practices, procedures and requirements that pertain to their job assignments. This includes pole top rescue for those who work on overhead lines. Because of the serious nature of this potential danger while performing overhead work our crews will continuously refresh their skills to be best prepared should they have to act in an emergency. This skill requires a Line worker to climb the pole with their gaffs and to safely retrieve and lower a 150-pound dummy from the top of a 40-foot wood pole that may have obstructions on it which must be completed in less than three minutes.åÊ Pictured above along with Business Representatives Richard Duva and James Bua are the members of Local 3 working in the Outside Line Division who participated in the Pole Top Rescue training.
