New York’s primary elections in June are shaping up to be more competitive and important than ever. New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli is running for re-election to a sixth term, and as a long-time friend of organized labor, he is counting on our support. As the comptroller for 19 years, he is the state’s chief financial officer, auditing government contracts and managing the state employees’ pension fund.

On the evening of February 11th, Local 3 hosted a fundraiser in the Electric Industry Center Auditorium with Local 25, Local 1049, NYECA, and distinguished guests like IBEW 3rd District International Representative Jenn Duck and former Business Manager Chris Erikson. Over 100 union members attended the event. Business Manager Christopher Erikson Jr. welcomed everyone and introduced Comptroller DiNapoli to deliver his remarks. DiNapoli spoke about his achievements in office, including the Open Book New York tax-dollar tracker and labor standards tied to public pension investments. He also noted the state’s new Public Campaign Finance Program, which matches small-donor donations by New York residents at a 6-to-1 ratio. A similar public matching funds program has been in effect in New York City since the 1980s.

The statewide primary elections will take place on June 23rd, with early voting on June 13th-21st. Make sure you are registered and ready to vote when the time comes, and remind those around you to do the same.
