On a Saturday morning in the Bronx, the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus of the IBEW held their annual International Day of Service. The NYC Chapter of EWMC in Local 3 consists of four clubs: Amber Light Society, Asian American Cultural Society, Howard Latimer Progressive Association, and Santiago Iglesias Educational Society. The Bronx Acorn Club and Rebuilding Together (a nationwide non-profit offering home repairs) joined them on their service project renovating the Kingsbridge Heights Community Center, including gardening, carpentry, painting, and light electrical work.
“This is just a part of what’s going on all across the country today,” said Local 3 “A” journeywoman Christina Young.
Union electrical supplier Turtle & Hughes also donated equipment for the renovations.
