Sean T. Fitzpatrick was born in Glen Cove, New York and raised in Flushing, Queens. He is the fifth of six children born to Vincent and Pauline Fitzpatrick. His Irish-Catholic family originates from County Clare and Northern Ireland.
Sean’s strong, working-class family instilled early on in him the need and importance of what it means to be a union member and a proud Irish-American. His father was a New York City operating engineer and union member for over 50 years.
At an early age, Sean realized he wanted to become an electrician and a member of Local 3, IBEW. He was accepted into the electrical program at Thomas A. Edison Vocational High School in Jamaica, NY. He graduated there with a diploma in academic and electrical vocational studies. Following his graduation from high school, he attended Queensborough Community College. After graduating, Sean continued his education at BOCES, where he graduated with certificates in management planning, advanced blueprint reading and estimating, high voltage splicing and advanced control wiring. He also holds certificates in health and safety and in electrical education related to all aspects of the electrical industry.
In 1984 Sean began his career with the City of New York Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) where he started work as an electricians’ helper, then was promoted to electrician and supervisor of electrician.
In addition to his career with the City of New York, Sean has had a 34-year career with Local 3. He has been a strong and tireless leader, worker and champion of the labor movement. He began his career as a union leader on the “A” City Division Negotiating Committee. He swiftly rose through the ranks and was elected Vice Chairman then the Chairman of the “A” City Division. In 2008 he was appointed Business Representative. He currently represents all “A” City Division Electricians, Supervisors of Mechanics, Communication Electricians, Stationary Engineers Electric, and the New York City Electrical Inspectors. Sean is also a member of the New York City Municipal Labor Committee and the New York City 220 Labor Coalition.
Sean has been married to his high school sweetheart, LynnMarie, since 1988. Their daughter, Meaghan Rose, is currently an attorney in Washington, DC. He and his family reside in Manhasset Hills, NY.
