Cliff Tuohy was initiated into Local Union #3 I.B.E.W. in August of 1988. He successfully completed the “A” Apprenticeship program, worked in the field as an MIJ, and received his A card in 1994. Cliff has worked in the industry as an A journeyman electrician, a sub-foreman, foreman, and shop steward.
Cliff has always been an actively involved member of Local 3. He has served on the Wage and Policy committee since being appointed in 2000 and also served as a member of the Local 3 Election Board. In 2007 Cliff was elected to serve on the Negotiating Committee for the Jacob Javits Convention Center contract as the Recording Secretary.
In 2009 Cliff was unanimously elected to the Executive Board of Local 3 to fill the unexpired term of Thomas Cleary and was re-elected by the membership for a second term in 2010. In addition to serving the membership as a Local 3 Executive Board member, Cliff also was a delegate at the 62nd, 63rd, 64th, and 65th, Third District Progress Meetings of the I.B.E.W. He also was a Delegate to the 68th I.B.E.W. Convention in Vancouver B.C. in 2011 and in 2012 served on the Sergeant at Arms Committee at the AFL/CIO Constitutional Convention.
In 2012 Cliff graduated from the Harry VanArsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies at SUNY Empire State College with a bachelor’s degree in labor studies. Since then he has continued his education taking classes at the Cornell ILR School.
In 2013, Business Manager Christopher Erikson brought Cliff on the Local 3 Staff as a Business Representative in the Compensation Department where he still currently serves. Since 2013, Cliff has represented injured or sick members of various divisions of Local 3 in attaining workers compensation benefits and awards on their claims within our ADR Program. In addition to this Cliff also oversees the Local 3 College Summer Helper Program.
Cliff is happily married to his wife Maritza, and together they have three wonderful children, Kathleen, Patrick, and Christopher and reside in Seaford, N.Y.
