Organizer

Archie Alcantara was appointed Organizer in February 2024.

Archie was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on September 28, 1973, to his mother, Maria, and his father, Nelson. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 10 along with his younger brother, Luciano, and they resided in Yonkers, where he graduated from Saunders Trades and Technical High School in 1992.

A first-generation member of Local 3, IBEW, Archie graduated from the “A” Apprentice Program with an associate’s degree from the SUNY Empire State College Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies in 1999. Before entering the apprenticeship with Local 3, Archie worked as an expeditor for Mard Electric, which was represented by IBEW Local 501 in Westchester County.

Archie was initiated into Local 3 on August 29, 1995, and earned his “A” card in 2000. He immediately became very active with the Westchester Mechanics Association and the “A” Apprentice Committee. He also has been a member of the Santiago Iglesias Educational Society, Catholic Council of Electrical Workers, Bronx Acorn Club, and Electrical Workers Minority Caucus (EWMC). In addition, he has served as Bronx Acorn’s Corresponding Secretary and Westchester Mechanics’ Door Chairman and Financial Secretary, as well as an “A” Inspector for the General Membership meetings.

During his career as a member of Local 3, Archie has worked as a shop steward, sub-foreman, and foreman on various job sites, such as the new and old Yankee Stadium, World Trade Center Tower 4, Whitney Museum, and LaGuardia Airport. Archie worked on traffic repair in the “J” Division until his appointment as an Organizer in 2024. He served on the 2004 “A” Negotiating Committee, was appointed by Business Manager Christopher Erikson to the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, and currently serves on the Wage & Policy Committee.

Archie’s proudest moment was when he represented the rank-and-file members on an Electrical Workers Without Borders North America (EWWBNA) volunteer project in Chiulo, Angola.

Archie currently resides in Briarcliff Manor, New York, and has two daughters, Alexandra and Michaela.
