Organizer

Anthony W. Mercado was appointed Organizer in February 2024.

Anthony was born and raised in the Bronx, New York, and currently resides there to this day. Before joining Local 3, IBEW, Anthony was a shop steward in United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) Local 342 at Hunts Point Market, the largest food distribution center in the world.

In 1986, Anthony graduated from Winchester High School in Winchester, Massachusetts, as a participant in the “A Better Chance” academic program.

Anthony was initiated into Local 3 in 2006 and graduated from the “A” Apprentice Program in 2011 with an associate’s degree from the SUNY Empire State College Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies. He worked as a journeyman inside wireman from 2011 to 2024. During that time, he was an active member of the Bronx Acorn Club, Santiago Iglesias Educational Society, and the Westchester Mechanics Association. He served as the Bronx Acorn Club President, Vice President, member of the Board of Governors, and Legislative Chair.

Throughout his career, Anthony has worked at the Bank of America Tower, Freedom Tower (One World Trade Center), Baruch College, NYCHA, North River Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility, Rikers Island, Amazon warehouse on Staten Island, Bronx Community College, and various other sites. He also served as shop steward and member of Local 3’s Volunteer Organizer Task Force, and he has served on the Wage & Policy Committee since 2022.
