The United Association for Labor Education (UALE) hosted its 49th Northeast Regional Summer School for Women in Unions and Worker Organizations at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies in midtown Manhattan on July 20th-24th. This year’s theme was “Resist, Rebuild, Renew – Sowing Seeds of Solidarity.”
More than 100 union members and activists, including sisters from IBEW Local 3 and Local 25, participated in workshops on history, leadership development, and the labor movement. Classes also covered collective bargaining, workplace safety and health, economics, public speaking, racial justice, organizing, and “Women+ in the Trades: Building Power on the Job,” which was co-facilitated by Local 3 sister Erin Sullivan. Beyond the classroom, participants joined demonstrations in support of workers at Victoria’s Secret and the Fairfield Marriott in Times Square, providing direct insight into campaigns for workers’ rights, safety, and corporate accountability. The week concluded with a joyful and empowering graduation ceremony.
