Local 3’s membership and diversity were well represented at the 34th Annual EWMC Leadership Conference on January 10th-14th in Atlanta, Georgia, which is the home of IBEW Local 613. This year’s conference theme was “EWMC: Vision to Reality Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence, Wisdom, Mentorship and Courage.”
The conference kicked off with EWMC/RENEW meetings on Wednesday, January 10th, and the Day of Service on Thursday January 11th. The conference officially opened that evening and continued through the weekend with workshops, chapter reports, new member orientations, and a special tour of the King Center for Nonviolent Social Change and the National Center for Civil & Human Rights.
Established in 1974, the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus (EWMC) advocates for greater diversity and inclusiveness within the IBEW and for people of color and women in leadership positions. The NYC chapter consists of the Affiliated Clubs of Local 3, IBEW: the Amber Light Society, Asian American Cultural Society, Latimer Progressive Association, and Santiago Iglesias Educational Society.
