Local 3 members were invited to learn more about the global and domestic offshore wind industry at the Offshore Wind and Substation Open House at the Electrical Industry Center Auditorium on the night of Thursday, July 27th.
Presentations by representatives of Local 3, the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund of the Joint Industry Board, and Con Edison explained in great detail the industry, scientific research, infrastructure, skilled labor, and Global Wind Organization (GWO)-certified training that will be required to ensure the success of offshore wind in New York. In fact, New York State’s commitment to developing at least 9,000 megawatts (MW) of offshore wind power by 2035 — enough to power up to 6 million homes — will directly create more than 10,000 new jobs in construction, manufacturing, project development, operations, and maintenance. Following the presentations, there was an open Q&A for those in attendance.
