The 2023 Local 3 Women’s Conference was held on Saturday, June 17 in the Electrical Industry Center Auditorium. Nearly 300 women from all divisions of Local 3 as well as union and industry leaders gathered for a day full of sisterhood and solidarity.
The conference started at 8 a.m. and went until 5:15pm. Presentations and remarks were given by Local 3 elected officials and business representatives, Joint Industry Board staff, labor educators, women contractors, and special guests. The event concluded with a live performance of Bev Grant’s “We Were There,” featuring the sisters of Local 3 playing the roles of historic women in this multimedia project.
Two awards were given to Local 3 brothers who have exhibited exemplary behavior on and off the job sites. Elevator Division member Brett Doerner received the “Ally” award for his commitment to education and skills training and for always encouraging his sisters. ‘A’ Construction member Christopher James was selected for the “Bystander To Upstander” award for stepping off the sidelines and standing up for his sisters at work.
