It’s the most wonderful time of year! On Sunday, November 28, a large crowd gathered around Electchester’s Christmas tree, Hanukkah menorah, and Kwanzaa kinara as they were lit, signaling the start of the holiday season here. Thank you to everyone from Local 3, the Joint Industry Board, affiliated clubs, signatory contractors, and Electchester residents who helped bring back this event to our community.
Special thanks to the NYPD 107th Precinct, Community Council President Carolann Foley, Representative Grace Meng, State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, Assemblyman Daniel Rosenthal, Councilman James Gennaro, Rabbi Shlomo Nisanov, Father Sean Suckiel, Reverend Gregory Sutterlin, and Boy Scouts Troop 357.
Two nights later, on November 30, Local 3 members and signatory contractor Atlas Acon Electric again had a hand in lighting the world-famous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. This year’s tree is a Norway Spruce from Maryland, stands at 79 feet tall, weighs nearly 12 tons, and is decorated with more than 50,000 LED lights with a Swarovski crystal star on top. The tree will remain lit daily for public viewing from 6 a.m. to midnight and all 24 hours on Christmas Day.
