Local 3 “A” journeywoman and president of the Amber Light Society, Keisha Spradley, was one of the top honorees. Her life’s story and career trajectory since encountering NEW and Local 3 were featured during the virtual event. Other honorees included Joseph Mizzi, president and COO of Sciame Construction; Peter Myers, business manager of Ironworkers Local 580; and members of the NEW Ambassador Council.
Founded in 1978, NEW has served as a model for advanced training programs and jobs placement for women in construction and building trades. Over the past 15 years, NEW has trained over 3,000 tradeswomen in New York City, 25 percent of whom have become electricians.
