The answer, my friend, is blowin’ in the wind.

If you're familiar with that song and who wrote it there’s a good chance you may not be tech-savvy enough to even get this message on a smartphone. Hopefully more members will continue to sign up. We have about 25% of our membership getting The Rank & File, and more important than that, I hope they are reading it. It has been an effective communication tool.

The Union World should have been in your mailbox last week. I urge you to read that too and bring it to work. If you care one iota about this union and want to protect it and what it provides for us and our families, then you and each and every member need to understand and make the case for why Joe Biden needs to be elected President of the United States in a few short weeks.

Bob Dylan infers that the answer to many questions is fleeting momentarily, and like many things, if it is not grasped, it is gone with the wind. The answer may be sometimes so obvious or other times as intangible as the wind.

A little musical history lesson for some, the lyrics:

Yes, 'n' how many years can a mountain exist

Before it is washed to the sea?

Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist

Before they're allowed to be free?

Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head

And pretend that he just doesn't see?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind

The answer is blowin' in the wind

Yes, 'n' how many times must a man look up

Before he can see the sky?

Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have

Before he can hear people cry?

Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take 'til he knows

That too many people have died?

The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind

The answer is blowin' in the wind

Dylan believed that some of the biggest criminals are those that turn their heads away when they see wrong and know it's wrong. It’s 2020, but this song written in 1962 is as pertinent as ever. Climate change, fraught race relations, indifference, partisan politics, domestic terrorism, and a pandemic in denial with a lack of national leadership. The answer, brothers and sisters, is in your face. Let’s put Donald Trump to the wind.
