The Electrical Welfare Club held its annual Hanukkah party on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at the Electrical Industry Center auditorium. Early in the morning, dozens of volunteers transformed the hall into a very festive and colorful setting. They wrapped presents, put up banners, blew up balloons, set the tables and prepared a delicious lunch for over 120 guests, of which more than 40 were children or grandchildren of members of the EWC.
The first guests began to arrive at 11am. As they entered, the children were greeted with dreidels and Hanukkah gelt. They then had the opportunity to enjoy coloring Hanukkah pictures or play dreidel with their family and friends.
Before you knew it, a delightful lunch was served. Everyone especially enjoyed the pizza bagels and potato latkes. Electrical Welfare Club Vice President Marc Deutscher welcomed everyone to our annual party. Assistant Business Manager and Club Coordinator Elliot Hecht wished everyone a Happy Hanukkah and a Happy and Healthy New Year. We were also joined by New York State Assemblyman Michael Simanowitz.
It was then time for the entertainment to start. ‘Bubbles’ the clown had all the children line up for incredible balloon creations, face painting and temporary tattoos. Then they participated in fun interactive games. After the games, everyone was treated to an excellent magic show from Bobo the Magician. This turned out to be very entertaining for both the children and adults alike.
All the children then gathered at the front of the stage where EWC President Steven Sadofsky read a wonderful Hanukkah story, ‘The Mensch on the Bench.’ Afterwards he thanked everyone for attending this special event. He also thanked everyone who helped with the setup early in the morning. Then all the children lined up for their chance to light the menorah. Afterwards, desert was served. Then came the moment all the kids were waiting for. Each child was called up by name to receive a Hanukkah gift from the club. Special thanks to our committee on a well-planned party. Once again, this event was a great success and a good time was had by all.
