James Robson serves as Local 3’s Political Director.
James began his Apprentice Training Program for Local Union No. 3, IBEW in 1985 and received his Certificate of Completion in 1989. Afterward, he worked in the DBM Division in many capacities including shop steward.
In 1990, James was elected to the DBM Advisory Board and served as the division’s Legislative Chairman. He was appointed to fill the unexpired term of the Vice Chairman in 1991 and was elected to that position in 1993. He was appointed to the position of Chairman in March 1994, then elected in 1996 and re-elected in 1999.
James served as Chairman for the Lighting and Electrical Maintenance contract negotiations in 1996 and 1999. He is also a Delegate to the Hotel Trades Council. He also served as a delegate to the New York State AFL-CIO Constitutional Convention, and the New York State Allied Printing Trades Council and has attended numerous Eastern Seaboard Apprentice and New York State AFL-CIO Legislative Conferences. He is a member of the Catholic Council of Electrical Workers, a member of the Board of Directors of Electchester’s Third Housing Company and serves as Vice President of the Third Housing Company as well as the Renting Director for Electchester. James also served as a Trustee on the Joint Apprentice and Training Committee of the Electrical Maintenance Association.
James was appointed Business Representative to the DBM Division and the DH Division for Hotel Electricians on April 20, 2000.
James attended eight years at St. Mary’s Winfield grammar school and graduated in 1980. He then attended Queens Vocational High School from 1980 to 1984. He completed the Labor Studies Certificate Program at the New York State School of Industrial Relations (now the ILR School) at Cornell University and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Labor-Management from Empire State College’s Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies. James graduated from the New York State AFL-CIO / Cornell Union Leadership Institute Program. He has also attended many other courses and classes and has received numerous certifications in various aspects of his field.
