The Workers Art Coalition and alumni from the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Center for Labor Studies at SUNY Empire State College collaborated on a public art project that is currently on view at Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City, Queens through March 2020. Local 3 journeypersons Paul Vance, Lowely Cheung and Sue Sheinen helped design and build the unique spiral sculpture made of galvanized conduit and compression connectors. They also installed two solar panels to illuminate the art at night.
“This is what we do as electricians after work,” Cheung said.
Thank you to the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Center for Labor Studies, Examining Board member Lou Alvarez and Business Representative Anthony Esponda for their assistance in completing this project. Legion Lighting also donated some of the electrical equipment.
