IBEW President Lonnie Stephenson and IBEW 3rd District International Vice President Donald Siegel attend the January 14th General Membership meeting. Brother Stephenson swore Business Manager å_Erikson into the position of IBEW International å_Executive Council Chairman.
Local 3 hosted the 26th annual IBEW Electrical Workers Minority Caucus from January 14th thru January 17th.
Bronx Acorn Club hosted their Super Bowl Weekend Kickoff on Friday, February 5th at the American Turners Club.
February 7th was the 116th Anniversary of Local 3’s affiliation with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

Allied Union Club of Queens held their å_annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration on March 6th honoring Business Representative John Baker as their ‘Man of the Year.’
On Monday, March 7th a celebration for Greek Independence Day was held at City Hall and the Greek Orthodox Council was honored with a Proclamation for their outstanding service and enduring contributions to New York City by Councilman Paul Vallone.
Retired Business Representative Joseph McBryne passed away on March 11th.
On Saturday, March 12th Local 3 retirees and their spouses filled the Banquet Hall of the Diplomat Resort in Hollywood, Florida for the 29th Florida Pension Reunion Luncheon.

Saturday, March 19th the Staten Island Electrical Club and Bedsole Kingsboro Club coordinated along with the participation of the ‘A’, ‘G’, ‘A’ Apprentice, ‘J’, ADM, Elevator Divisions and Utility Division members from Con Edison on Staten Island, to collect and distribute over 76,000 food items from over 138 schools on Staten Island and Brooklyn. The drive was sponsored by the Notre Dame Club of Staten Island and is their 24th Annual ‘Bread of Life’ Drive.

Delegation from Local 3 visited with the Joint Industry Board in the United Kingdom in London from March 19th thru March 23rd.
The Daily News 89th Golden Gloves Boxing event was again hosted by the Sportsmen’s Club on Friday, March 25th. The honoree was Business Representative Ricardo Rollins and the Rank and File member was Harry Strack.
Elevator Division celebrates its 60th Anniversary with a Dinner Dance at Terrace on the Park in Flushing honoring Assistant Business Manager Lance Van Arsdale as their ‘Man of the Year’ and Kevin Fowler as their ‘Rank and File Honoree.’
The Educational and Cultural Trust Fund held their 68th Annual Scholarship Breakfast on Saturday, April 9th and awarded 44 scholarships and 1 fellowship to children of Local 3 members. The keynote speaker this year was Roberta Reardon, Labor Commissioner.
The 2016 season for members to attend the Critical Thinking Workshop at the Long Island Educational Center opened on April 9th. There were 28 Critical Thinking Seminars with 1,983 members and eligible dependents attending. The 2016 program was titled “A Cry for the Climate.” The Workshop was an interactive, critical thinking workshop on Global Warming and Climate Change. Also, 483 retired members from 10 different retiree chapters attended seminars at the Center.
Nomination and election of delegates and alternate delegates to the IBEW 39th International Convention took place on Thursday, April 14th at the General Membership
meeting. There were 15 delegates and 9 alternate delegates nominated and elected.
On Saturday, April 23rd the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Memorial Association along with Local 3, the Amber Light Society and the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund hosted a conference to celebrate ‘Women in the Labor Movement and their Contributions.’
Local 3 members along with Building and Construction Trades members celebrated Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on April 28th for Workers Memorial Day.
Lewis Howard Latimer Progressive Association holds their 58th Annual Scholarship Award Ceremony and Dinner Dance on Saturday, April 30th honoring Assistant Business Manager Lance Van Arsdale as their ‘Man of the Year’ and Otis Sessoms as their ‘Club Honoree.’

Members participated in the Union Sportsman Alliance 5th Annual Sporting Clay Shoot on May 14th at the Mid-Hudson Sporting Clays Range, New Paltz, New York.
From May 15th through May 21st the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund held their 34th Biennial Spring Arts Festival.
On May 20th members of the Local 3 Legends Team came together to help fight children’s cancer by showing support for St. Baldricks Foundation by shaving their heads for Children’s Cancer Research.

A new 3-year ‘J’ Division Agreement between Local 3 and its signatory employers performing Street Lighting and Traffic Signal Maintenance was unanimously ratified on May 26th.
The camping season for Local 3 children commenced on June 26th and ended on å_August 20th with 441 members’ children attending. Also there was the opportunity for members’ children with special needs to attend Kamp Kiwanis.

Retired Business Representative John Crowley died on June 10th.
639 members of Local 3 were honored at our Annual Service Awards Luncheon on Monday, June 13th. Among the honorees were 142 50-year members; 217 55-year members; 153 60-year members; 62 65-year members; 55 70-year members; 9 75-year members; and 1 80-year member.
The Educational and Cultural Trust Fund held their Transit Work Skills Graduation on June 14th. 63 members received their Certificates for the 15-week course completion.
Deceased 9/11 member Charles Lucania had a street named after him on Wednesday, June 15th.

Local 3 members participate in the 10th Annual CUNY “Solar Summit” which was held on June 20th at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. The Summit keyed on the expansion of large scale photovoltaic installations across New York State with the emphasis on New York City.
From June 21st thru June 24th female members of Local 3 attend the 2016 IBEW Women’s Conference held in Phoenix, Arizona.
Local 3 and the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Memorial Association participate at the 2016 High School for Construction Trades, Engineering and Architecture graduation on Thursday, June 23rd.
On June 27th Local 3’s Joint Apprentice Training Committee of the Elevator Division commenced their Apprentice Recruitment and Selection Program making applications for the program available.
The Educational and Cultural Trust Fund celebrates 52-years of excellence in providing educational programs for the members and their families.
On July 1st Local 3 made available to members in need of an attorney to represent them in compensation cases a ‘preferred list’ of attorney’s. Any member that retains an attorney from the preferred worker’s compensation attorney list to represent them in their New York State Workers Compensation Claim will receive a 10% reduction in their legal fees. This reduction will generate a savings on legal fees directly to the member that they normally would have had to pay the attorney out of their settlement.
On July 2nd the Trustees of the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund dedicated the new Picnic Pavilion at the Educational Center in Cutchogue, to Walter D. Whitelaw. Whitelaw has had a long history and dedication to the unionized electrical contracting industry as well as his strong support and dedication to the Boy Scouts of America.
Retired member and longtime Chairman of the Foreman’s Committee Cornelius ‘Neil’ Madden died on July 6th. Neil was a World War II Marine Corp. veteran and a 69-year member of Local 3.
Retired Local 3 President and retired President of the New York State AFL-CIO Edward J. Cleary passed away on July 13th. Cleary emphasized in his inaugural address as President of the New York State AFL-CIO that “From this day forth we speak with one voice, with one agenda for one movement”. He stressed the importance of the unification of working men and women towards one common goal, the strength and survival of unionism.

Local 3 members along with the Climate Works for All Coalition met at the stairs of City Hall to call for changes to New York City’s Solar Initiative. They spoke on the importance of labor unions preforming the installations and that these jobs make New York greener and the trades are the best skilled for the task.

The newly formed Veteran’s Club met for their first meeting on Friday, October 28th.
Local 3 hosted a Tele/Data Open House Job Fair on Tuesday, November 1st. Over 500 individuals from all across the Tele/Data Industry attended.
Local 3 was presented with the ‘Caring Heart Award’ from the New York Hospital Queens Blood Donation program for being a Platinum member of their program at a reception held in the Theresa and Eugene M. Lang Center at the hospital.
The Executive Board of Local 3 elects Steven Moy to serve as an Executive Board member upon the resignation of Board Member Richard F. McSpedon at their November 14th Executive Board Meeting.
The Educational and Cultural Trust Fund held their 32nd Annual College Advisory Day on Saturday, November 19th.
In November Local 3 members commenced installing Christmas Lights on the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. The tree was a 94foot Norway spruce, which is the 2nd tallest tree ever at Rockefeller Center. A crew of approximately 20 electricians worked through all kinds of weather getting the lights ready for the big day. It took 9 days to install the 47,500 lights which required over 5 miles of wire. Foremen George Pogan and Charlie Cassely oversaw the project, which by the way was a huge success.

The Educational and Cultural Trust Fund held their 2016 Holiday Program on Sunday, December 4th. The Fund presented ‘Jack Frost.’
The Motorcycle Club did their 2016 toy run for the Quality Services for Autistic Children on Saturday, December 10th.
Apprentice Advisory Committee hosts their annual Children’s holiday party on December 10th. Children from various orphanages from both Brooklyn and the Bronx were again invited to the party.
The Electchester Street Fair Committee held their Annual Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony on Thursday, December 15th at 7 PM in the courtyard at 161st Street and Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Avenue.
The Educational and Cultural Trust Fund had 34 members and 115 spouses receive Tuition Reimbursement totaling 1,497 Undergraduate Credits and 472 Graduate Credits for a total cost of $363,893; The College Tuition Assistance Benefit for members, children had 775 undergraduate and 40 graduate loans disbursed for a total of $3,629,583; 218 members received the Jury Duty Benefit for a total disbursed to the members of $79,170; lastly, 1,773 members took advantage of the 259 classes offered through the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund.
