The special election in NYC Council District 24 will be held on February 2, and early voting is available January 23-31 — less than a week away! It is the first city election of the year and the first to use the Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) process, where voters get to rank up to five of their most-preferred candidates. The 24th District encompasses the Electric Industry Center, Electchester, and a large section of eastern Queens.

There are opportunities for voters and Local 3 members to learn more about the new voting process being implemented and the nine candidates running in this special election. The Queens Daily Eagle and ITV Gold moderated a virtual panel with some of the candidates on Wednesday, January 13, co-sponsored by the NAACP Northeast Queens chapter, Rank the Vote NYC, and Common Cause NY. In partnership with the Queens Public Library, Common Cause will host another educational panel via Facebook Live this Tuesday, January 19 at 7:00 pm.
