On November 30th, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, NYSERDA, and its CEO Alicia Barton will be touring the Long Island City Electrical Industry Training Center. NYSERDA is a state public-benefit corporation that works with different federal and local governments, businesses, academics, unions and community groups to reduce greenhouse gases and create new green energy sources. This visit comes at a critical time, as NYSERDA, the procurement agent for offshore wind, just put out its first solicitation for 800 megawatts of offshore wind energy. At Governor Cuomo's direction, this RFP includes strong labor protections - project labor agreements and prevailing wages - as contract requirements. Business Manager Erikson, the JIB, and our contractors are working hard to ensure Local #3 will be on this project and others like it in the future.
