The American Labor Movement has lost a leader and a brother in AFL-CIO President Trumka, who passed away on August 5 at the age of 72. From working in the Pennsylvania mines at 19 years old to being elected the youngest president of the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) in 1982 and elected to AFL-CIO national leadership in 1995, President Trumka dedicated his whole life to workers and unions. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and everyone who knew and worked with him.
If you are able, the Trumka family is requesting donations in his memory be sent to the Penn State Scholarship Fund (memo line: “Trumka Family Trustee Scholarship/SCBTK”) at Penn State Donor and Members Services, 2583 Gateway Drive, Suite 130, Bristol Place One, State College, PA 16801.
