On November 22, the day before what would have been his 117th birthday, the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Memorial Association hosted the annual luncheon in honor of Harry’s life, legacy, and close associates, such as Dr. Lois Gray of Cornell University. Earlier that morning, the Memorial Association convened for their annual meeting chaired by President Thomas J. Cleary. The board meeting included reports on financials, scholarship funds, last year’s meeting which was held virtually, and newly elected board members.
The luncheon held in the Electrical Industry Center Auditorium also featured presentations of a new research paper by Alejandra Quintero (Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Research Fellow at the Cornell ILR Worker Institute) titled “A Rising Tide: The Wave of New Organizing & the Legacy of Harry Van Arsdale Jr. & IBEW Local 3.” Between presentations, audio and film footage of Harry’s speeches and Local 3 members making history were played on the big screen.
