New Yorkers will head to the polls this month for the primary elections for mayor, comptroller, public advocate, city council, borough presidents and district attorneys. Local 3 has made endorsements, which can be accessed on our website (members-only log-in required) and in the special issue of the Union World newspaper. Let’s get out the vote for those who support us.

Early voting takes place over the next two weekends, starting this Saturday, June 12 through Sunday, June 20. Poll sites will be open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Election Day, June 22. If you are registered to vote in New York City but are out of town or unable to go to the polls, apply for an absentee ballot by June 15. More details on voting and how Ranked Choice Voting works are available at vote.nyc from the NYC Board of Elections.

The NYC Central Labor Council is running a member-to-member campaign, as well. “Labor Votes!” is focused on getting out the vote among 1 million union members in the five boroughs. Members of Local 3 and other unions have already participated in labor walks in Brooklyn and Staten Island and there will be more opportunities to volunteer over the next two weeks. Please visit laborvotes.nyc online to use the CLC’s election site for union members and sign up to volunteer.

Affiliated clubs have volunteered with the “Labor Votes!” campaign and directly with union-endorsed candidates such as Elizabeth Crowley for Queens Borough President. It’s time to get active with your club’s political action and consider becoming a contributor to Local 3’s Committee on Political Education (COPE). Whatever it takes to make Local 3’s voice heard loud and clear in these pivotal elections!
