A Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson
Election Day is upon us, and I want to thank all of the members who have stepped up and made a difference in so many of the critical races this election season. We have done the work. Over 1,300 members have put in a shift so far by making calls, knocking doors, attending GOTV rallies, and talking about what is at stake. The message has been clear: we need to elect pro-worker and pro-union candidates up and down the ballot. We have made the case as to why we believe Kamala Harris is the right choice for our Union, our members, and our country.
We need a president and a Congress that supports working people and all Americans. We need the PRO (Protecting the Right to Organize) Act instead of national "right to work" legislation. We need to expand affordable healthcare and protect peoples' rights instead of repealing coverage and controlling women and their healthcare decisions. We need to support American infrastructure, industry, and manufacturing with labor standards instead of tax cuts for billionaires and corporations. It is clear which candidates and which party is on each side of these issues.
For those still undecided – maybe stuck on an issue that makes you hesitant – I urge you to use your critical thinking skills and move on. Our democracy is on the ballot this election. Our freedoms and rights are on the ballot. Your union is on the ballot, and so much more. The division and hate in America cannot rule the day.
So, if you haven't yet, take the time tomorrow to vote. Make sure you bring along everyone who hasn't voted yet either. It is the most patriotic thing you can do, and every vote counts. Our voices will make a difference – from electing a pro-union president to flipping the majority in the House of Representatives.
Harry Van Arsdale Jr. used to say, “On Election Day, the workers are the bosses.” Be the boss tomorrow. It's up to you now. Protect our union, protect your livelihood, and support your family. Vote your union and make your voice heard tomorrow for a brighter future for America.
