The 76th annual Joint Industry Board (JIB) Scholarship Awards and Breakfast took place on Saturday, April 6th, where 47 students and children of Local 3 members were awarded academic scholarships that will help them earn their degrees in higher education.
Local 3, the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund, and the Alumni Association of Scholarship Winners (AASW) proudly hosted the event in the Electrical Industry Center Auditorium and they were joined by the scholarship recipients, their families, invited guests, the affiliated clubs of Local 3, signatory employers, college representatives, and elected officials, namely State Senator Toby Ann Stavisky, State Senator John Liu, State Senator Shelley Mayer, Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr., and Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, who all assisted in awarding the scholarships. Notably, Humberto Restrepo gave the opening remarks for the first time in his capacity as Chairman of the JIB. Business Manager Christopher Erikson concluded the event with impactful remarks that shed light on the state of the union, our country, and the children who will help build the future.
