March is Women’s History Month, and Local 3 is proud of our sisters making history in the electrical industry and labor movement. In the latest issue of the IBEW’s Electrical Worker monthly, Local 3 apprentices were featured with their new work in the form of a children’s book, Wire Women Lighting It Up: What It's Like to Be a Female Union Electrician. As students in the Harry Van Arsdale Jr. School of Labor Studies at SUNY Empire State College, eight apprentices collaborated with Professor Sharon Szymanski and journeywoman Erin Sullivan to write a book from the perspective of female union electricians to inspire an audience in the youngest generation. The book is available for purchase now from unionized publisher Hard Ball Press.
Make sure to check out the rest of the March 2024 Electrical Worker, featuring a cover story on the 34th Annual EWMC Leadership Conference and the Local 3 Legends fundraiser for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in the Local Lines section.
