Earth Day is coming up on April 22nd! Consider the many ways in which IBEW electricians and organized labor as a whole are confronting the challenges of climate change and turning them into work opportunities in a just transition to a renewable-energy economy.
Climate Jobs, a coalition of unions representing 2.6 million working New Yorkers, has been lobbying the Governor and State Legislature during state budget negotiations to include strong labor provisions in implementing the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). Among these labor standards are prevailing wage, project labor agreements, “Buy American” and displaced worker protections, along with supply chain job criteria and support for the unionized manufacturing sector. The state budget proposal was supposed to be finalized by the original April 1st deadline, which has been extended through April 10th.
