20 Things Biden Has Done to Help Labor

Since his inauguration on January 20, President Joe Biden and his administration have already made changes that benefit labor. On February 17 in the Oval Office, presidents and executive officers from the building trades and international unions met with Biden, including IBEW International Pres. Lonnie Stephenson, AFL-CIO Pres. Richard Trumka, and AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer and IBEW Local 125 member Liz Shuler. The president reaffirmed his commitment to prevailing wage, union-registered apprenticeships, and a $2 trillion infrastructure plan.

These are just some of the things Biden has done so far:

• Appointed a labor-friendly Cabinet, for example, Marty Walsh, mayor of Boston and former head of the Boston Building Trades Council, as Secretary of Labor and former elementary school teacher and principal Miguel Cardona as Secretary of Labor.
• Restored the union rights of federal employees, strengthened Buy American provisions, and ordered OSHA to issue a COVID safety standard.
