The Building and Construction Trades Council of Greater New York announced their endorsement of NYC Comptroller Scott Stringer for mayor in a virtual press conference on Wednesday, February 24. BCTC President Gary LaBarbera was joined by Local 3 Business Manager Christopher Erikson and the leadership of 15 national and international unions who represent 100,000 trades workers in New York City.
“We need a mayor who knows how the city works,” LaBarbera said, as he highlighted Stringer’s leadership on the policy of responsible contracting where city projects and pension funds are concerned.
Stringer, who adds to endorsements by LIUNA-NY, CWA District 1, RWDSU and the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (ASAAL), has served as a state assemblyman, borough president of Manhattan, and city comptroller since 2014, being re-elected in 2018.
“Your work is truly the foundation of our city and will be the foundation to our recovery,” Stringer said upon accepting the BCTC’s endorsement.
Local Union No. 3 has yet to endorse a candidate in the June Democratic primary election for Mayor but expects to do so in the coming weeks.
