The world’s famous Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting took place on December 2 for the 88th consecutive year, keeping alive a tradition started by construction workers in the 1930s.
Since the tree arrived from Oneonta, NY on November 14, Local 3 IBEW electricians working for Atlas Acon Electric and building trades union members made sure the job was done right and on time to kick off the holiday season in New York City. This year’s Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is a Norway Spruce standing at 75-feet tall by 45-feet wide, weighing 11 tons, and covered in more than 50,000 multi-colored LED lights on approximately 5 miles of wire.
