Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson
It has been a pretty interesting week regarding Charter Spectrum. Local 3 members started to leaflet NY1, the Charter-owned cable station to remind New Yorkers and our elected officials of the plight of our members who have been on strike for 19 months.
Mayor de Blasio canceled his appearance and the Governor lauded him while calling on others to boycott Charter's TV studios. The NYC Comptroller, Council Speaker and more than 34 members of the City Council and NYS Assembly agreed, signing a letter to Charter CEO Tom Rutledge. NY State AG candidate Tish James and Senator Gillibrand all canceled scheduled debates, standing tall with the strikers. I thank them all for the support.
Governor Cuomo interceded and compelled Charter back to the negotiating table. Local 3 agreed to suspend the leafleting during negotiations and are eager to reach a settlement. This company has disgraced its reputation and deserves to lose its franchise agreement in NYC if this labor dispute is not resolved. Let’s hope they come to their senses.
