Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson
We had a great turnout at the August General Membership meeting. I took the opportunity to thank the loyal brothers and sisters for fulfilling their responsibilities as Local 3 members by coming to the union meeting. Like every month, they left informed about what they need to know. I was especially proud as more than 1,000 members stood, raised their hand and recited the oath that each of us took when we became members of this great organization. It’s worth repeating:
“I, Christopher Erikson, in the presence of Members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers promise and agree to conform to and abide by the Constitution and Laws of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and it’s Local Unions. I will further the purposes for which the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is instituted. I will bear true allegiance to it and will not sacrifice its interests in any manner.”
It is truly a sacred oath and is the source of our strength and our success. I urge all of our brothers and sisters to stay true to our principals.
Local 3 also mourns the loss of Carlton W. Chew, a loyal and active member of Local 3 for 47 years. He was a former president and founding member of Local 3's Asian-American Cultural Society and a founding member of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance. He was a great shop steward and also active in the Democratic Party on Staten Island. On behalf of the members of Local 3, I extend sincere condolences to his wife Susan. He will be truly missed and remembered for the many contributions he made to the Local that he loved.
