Thomas Capurso was appointed to Assistant Business Manager upon Elliot Hecht’s retirement.
Tom served as Business Representative in Local 3’s northernmost jurisdiction since September 13, 2007, when he was nominated by Business Manager Christopher Erikson and unanimously approved at a General Membership Meeting. Over the last 14 years, Tom has been assigned to represent construction electricians in Westchester County.
Tom was initiated in Local 501, IBEW in 1988. He became a member of Local 3 upon the merger of Local 501 into Local 3 in 1992. He completed his apprenticeship and has been employed in the industry as a journeyman, foreman, general foreman and shop steward. He is an instructor in the White Plains/Fairfield Apprentice Training Program, the National Electric Code Class for 1996 and Empire State College from 2003 to 2005.
As an apprentice, Tom graduated with a high honors diploma and was the recipient of the NJATC’s Outstanding Achievement Award and the White Plains/Fairfield JATC’s Outstanding Dedication & Achievement Award for 1992-1993. He has attended the National Instructors Training Institute, which is sponsored by the IBEW/NECA National Joint Apprentice Training Council, at the University of Tennessee.
Tom has been a member of the Westchester Mechanics Association since 1993. He is a member of the Catholic Council of Electrical Workers and Sportsmen’s Club North Chapter. He served as delegate to the Westchester-Putnam Central Labor Body, AFL-CIO. He is a Board Member of the Westchester-Putnam Workforce Investment Board. He is a Board Member of the Westchester Electrical License Board. He is also a Trustee of the Pension Committee and the Educational and Cultural Trust Fund. He is a member of the Sword of Light Band and was the Pipe Major from 2005 to 2007.
Since 1994, Tom has been a member of the Advisory Committee of White Plains and served as the chairman of the White Plains/Fairfield 2004 ‘A’ Electrician’s Negotiating Committee.
Born and raised in Yonkers, Tom is a graduate of Sacred Heart Elementary School, Saunders Trade & Technical H.S. and Westchester Community College. Tom and his wife, Patricia, have two children, Stephen and Franklin, and reside in Peekskill, NY.
