Local 3, IBEW “A” journeywoman and Amber Light Society President Shauna Irving was one of four women recently featured in the New York Post’s coverage of women increasingly opting for careers in the unionized construction and mechanical trades, along with the equal pay and benefits that come with them. Shauna, a graduate of the Non-traditional Employment for Women (NEW) pre-apprenticeship program – spoke highly of her experience being a union electrician and encouraging the next generation of women.
“I’ve noticed more and more women getting involved,” she said. “They are starting to see the benefits of coming from diverse backgrounds to build their cities.”
