Thomas Patrick Van Arsdale, born in Ozone Park, Queens NY on February 16, 1924, was the son of Harry Van Arsdale Jr. and Mary Casey. He has three siblings, Harry III, Kathryn Erikson (nee Van Arsdale) and Margaret. Both Harry III and Kathryn predeceased him.
He married Edith Nancy Van Arsdale on May 5, 1945. She predeceased him. He is survived by his three children, Patricia Salerno, Susan Teese, Jean Tratner, and step-son, James Smith, 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He married Phyllis Babb-Van Arsdale in 1988. She survives.
Thomas served as an active trade unionist throughout his career as a member of Local 3 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He served as its Business Manager, as well as, Treasurer of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and as President of the NYC Central Labor Council.
He was a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic University with a Degree in Electrical Engineering. A World War II Veteran, he served as an Ensign in the United State Navy during the waning months of the war.
His service to his fellow man has resulted in millions of men and women having better security in their working lives, providing greater wages, benefits and insurance�s that would not have existed but for his efforts. In doing so, his family was gracious in sharing his time on behalf of so many, known and unknown, but reaping the benefits of his labor.
