Dr. Makover, Chief Medical Officer JIB
Excess weight is one of the greatest causes of disease and disability, especially excess fat inside the abdomen, around the intestines, in the liver and around the heart. That is called Visceral Fat. The fat under the skin (called subcutaneous fat) is the fat most people want to reduce for a bathing suit or a wedding dress.
Unfortunately, fat is much more than a cosmetic problem (which is only a matter of personal taste). Excess total weight wears out the joints below your waist much faster (osteoarthritis) and can lead to hip and knee replacement. Too much fat under the skin also begins to ‘spill over’ into the visceral fat.
Visceral fat is the worst
The visceral fat is even worse. It is the cause of most Type 2 diabetes and is a major contributor to atherosclerosis (hardening of the arties), heart attacks, strokes, dementia (such as Alzheimer’s Disease), erectile dysfunction, high blood pressure, gout and several common types of cancer.
The new test is easy, fast, harmless and painless
The new test is done on the same machine that does bone density exams for osteoporosis (weak bones). The test for visceral fat is called the Body Composition Test. It measures any excess fat and where and also measures your muscle mass. JIB Medical uses a new machine (from Hologic) that does the most up-to-date and accurate bone density and body composition testing. It can also examine the spine for tiny, hidden micro-fractures and can detect calcium in the aorta, a sign of atherosclerosis.
The Body Composition Test takes fewer than 10 minutes. It uses a minuscule amount of x-ray ‰ÛÒ less than you would be exposed to every day from natural sources. The full set of tests the machine does takes fewer than 20 minutes and also uses very little x-ray ‰ÛÒ about the same as three days of natural exposure. (We are all exposed every day to low levels of radiation from the environment.)

You can make great progress against excess fat.
Being overweight is not a crime or a weakness or any of the many other ways people think incorrectly about it. It is a biological problem related to our body chemistry, the way our brains work and the very unhealthy food environment we live in. Everyone can do better using scientific approaches that understand why excess weight occurs and can reduce the risk to their health that excess visceral fat imposes.
JIB Medical has many ways to help people learn to enjoy a heathy way of life and to achieve a healthier weight ‰ÛÒ Wellness Workshops, our stress reduction program (SOS), videos, dieticians, handouts and our wellness website (wellness.jibei.org).
