May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In the construction industry, we continue to grapple with high rates of suicide, addiction, and overdose. In fact, more construction workers die by suicide than by accidents on the job, which is why mental illnesses such as depression are sometimes called the “silent killer.”

Getting the help you need is the smartest thing you can do.

If you or a loved one is in distress, call or text 988 to reach the free and confidential Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Counselor services are available 24/7 in more than 240 languages in addition to English and Spanish.

Local 3 members and eligible participants under the Joint Industry Board health care benefits plan have access to Substance Abuse Services & Mental Health Referral Guidance. For more information, please call (718) 591-2000 ext. 1396. Please share this information at work and in union meetings.
