Over 5,000 people from at least 50 unions and grassroots organizations took to the streets in downtown Manhattan on Saturday, March 15th in response to President Donald Trump, Congressional Republicans, and unelected billionaires like Elon Musk firing federal workers and threatening up to $2 trillion in cuts to health care, public education, and other social services. The “March to Stop the Cuts” began with a rally in Foley Square, and then it moved down Broadway past Wall Street’s Charging Bull toward Battery Park. Active members and retirees of Local 3, IBEW marched in solidarity with public employees and their unions, affiliates of the New York City Central Labor Council and New York State AFL-CIO, Citizen Action of New York, New York Communities for Change, Make the Road New York, and others.

Since taking office on January 20th, President Trump has issued executive orders that drastically reduce the federal workforce and virtually abolish entire agencies. These anti-worker and budget-cutting efforts have been led by the Department of Government Efficiency overseen by Musk. Under threat of a federal government shutdown, the U.S. Senate passed a continuing resolution on Friday, March 14th to maintain current levels of funding through September 30th, which was signed by President Trump the day of the rally and march.
