During the holiday season, many families struggle to afford housing, food and clothing throughout the city. Some of these families reside in family shelters. These families also struggle to provide Christmas gifts for their children. With the generosity of the Latimer officers and members, they were able to provide Christmas gifts to over 60 children who reside at the West Harlem Residence, a family shelter. The gifts consisted of hats, scarves and gloves.
On December 20, 2016, on behalf of Business Representative Rick Rollins and the officers and members of the Lewis Howard Latimer Progressive Association, Corresponding Secretary Brownette Cooke visited the West Harlem Residence to drop off the Christmas gifts. Social Service Supervisor Mrs. Wisdom greeted her with gratitude. She was overwhelmed by the unexpected act of kindness from the organization. Mrs. Wisdom stated that the hats, scarves and gloves were great gifts for the children to ensure that they will keep warm during the winter as they traveled to and from school on a daily basis.
Pictured are some of the hats and gloves that were distributed by members of the Latimer Club.
