International President Lonnie R. Stephenson has issued the Talent Pipeline Challenge to register at least 10,000 electricians in the IBEW-NECA Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program (EVITP) by the end of the month of August.
As a result of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed by Congress and signed by President Joe Biden in November 2021, $5 billion in federal funding will be available to all 50 states (plus Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico) over the next five years to build a national network of 500,000 electrical vehicle (EV) charging stations located conveniently along so-called “Alternative Fuel Corridors” by 2030. Recently, the U.S. Department of Transportation has designated the EVITP as their preferred credentialed training program.
The IBEW’s Talent Pipeline Challenge will answer the call for a highly skilled workforce on this nationwide infrastructure buildout while ensuring these are good-paying union jobs. The EVITP is a 20-hour course for journey-level wiremen. The course is provided online and the exam is in person at the local JATC or ETA facility.
