A Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson
Thank you to Drum Major Pat Rafferty, President Sean McDonald, and all of the members of the Sword of Light, Pipes and Drums of Local Union No. 3. You proudly represent the members of our great union in all of the parades and events that you march in and continue to distinguish yourselves as a great, great pipe and drum band.
Congratulations as well to the Allied Union Club of Queens on hosting a wonderful St. Patrick’s event at our hall last week. Like the Local 3 New Year’s Eve party a few months earlier, there were so many young members in attendance. I am truly confident that the future of our great union is in good hands as the next generations of members step up, participate, and support it. Thank you to all of the mentors for the work you do. It is clear that your efforts are paying off. Eternal vigilance, as Harry said.

Also last week, over 1,100 Local 3 retirees filled the ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel. It was also a great event to see and hear from our retirees, smiling and enjoying a secure retirement they all worked hard to earn. We had the opportunity to hear from the Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo. Local 3 announced our endorsement of his candidacy for Mayor of New York City. We believe his commitment and loyalty to the middle class was evident throughout his years of public service as we, Local 3 electricians, re-built the Mario Cuomo and Kosciusko Bridges, the Second Avenue Subway, East Side Access, LaGuardia Airport, and Moynihan Station. He was the steady hand throughout the pandemic helping to establish protections for essential construction workers, and he will be the strong voice and defender for all New Yorkers as we face the challenges from an administration in Washington, D.C., intent on destroying the progress that New Yorkers have made. Cuomo will work hard as a moderate Democrat to solve the problems that we as New Yorkers face, while protecting unions, workers, and the middle class, as well as those who are less fortunate.
