Governor Andrew M. Cuomo delivered the 2021 State of the State Address over the course of four days, January 11-14, which were also full of announcements on New York’s future. The state’s record $15 billion deficit will present challenges as we begin the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Looking ahead, New York will launch the largest green-energy and infrastructure plans in the country.

In the short- and long-term, Gov. Cuomo listed the states’ seven priorities as follows:

  • First, we must defeat COVID-19.
  • Vaccinate New Yorkers and learn from the glaring effects of America’s broken public health system.
  • Manage the short-term economic crisis, and the $15 billion state deficit must be addressed in the next several weeks.
  • Reopen the economy smartly and safely. Re-energize the private sector. Rebuild our transportation and infrastructure systems for the next generation of growth.
  • Seize the opportunity to make New York the global leader in the shift to a renewable energy economy, which will create thousands of good-paying, secure jobs.
  • Understand the long-term effects of COVID-19 and capitalize on those coming changes.
  • Address systemic injustices and inequality.
