The 86th annual meeting of the Electrical Workers Death Benefit Society (EWDBS) was called to order on Thursday, February 13th, in the Electric Industry Center Auditorium. Local 3 members attending the General Membership meeting voted to temporarily suspend the meeting in order to hold the EWDBS annual meeting and election.
Each year, ten of the 20 EWDBS directors are elected, and the four officers are elected every two years. Following the reading of the minutes from the 85th EWDBS meeting on February 8, 2024, the floor was opened for nominations. The incumbent slate of directors and officers was re-elected. As previously announced, this year’s meeting also included a vote on amendments to the EWDBS Constitution and Bylaws, which were handed out in writing to the membership as they entered the Auditorium.
Treasurer Damon Armstrong delivered the 2024 financial report, including the summary of benefits and the history of Local 3’s Death Benefit Society, which was officially established on January 1, 1940. The dues premium at the time of its founding was $1.70 per month, and today it is $2.20 per month. The death benefit provides 100 percent of the face value of the certificate, which doubles the beneficiary benefit, in addition to plans managed through the Joint Industry Board and the IBEW Pension Benefit Fund. The 2024 report was accepted as read and the EWDBS meeting adjourned, so the General Membership meeting could reconvene with regular business.
The Designation of Beneficiary form is readily available on Local 3’s website. To confirm your benefit and beneficiary information, or if you have any other questions, please call (718) 591-4400.
