The Electrical Welfare Club (EWC) recently celebrated its 100th anniversary as the longest-running Affiliated Club of Local 3 IBEW. On Sunday, May 21st, the EWC’s 100th Anniversary Gala took place at the Plainview Jewish Center, where over 180 current club members, retirees, sister club members, contractors, and Local 3 officers gathered to celebrate this monumental day in our union’s history. Among the honorees were former EWC presidents Dr. Gerald Finkel, Elliot Hecht, Howard B. Cohen, and Steven Schwartz.
Over a century ago, the first meeting of the Electrical Welfare Club convened on Saturday, March 17, 1923 at the Harlem Terrace Hall located at 62 East 106th Street. The EWC and its members remain dedicated to trade unionism, supportive of Jewish organizations, and opposed to bigotry and anti-Semitism in all its forms. Club meetings are scheduled on the third Thursday of every month, except for July and August, in the JIB Balcony Lounge.
