On Thursday, May 18th, members of the Bronx Acorn Electrical Club represented Local 3 IBEW at a College and Career Day fair for the students of the Bronx Design and Construction Academy located in the South Bronx. The event featured representatives from the building trades, colleges, NYC civil services, and U.S. military, so that students could get more information about the next phase of their young lives.
The Bronx Acorn Club’s table had the most visitors of the day. After all, Local 3 has a long-standing relationship with this vocational program. Two of the journeymen representing Local 3 that day, Donald Brathwaite and Gilberto Constantinez, were former graduates of this school. This particular school has a direct-entry pathway for students with electrical training and endeavors. It also has an alternative entry for its students to enter any trade via Construction Skills.
