Message from Business Manager Chris Erikson
Happy Valentine’s Day, don’t forget the ones you love. Also, “Gung Hay Fat Choy!” Happy Lunar New Year!
2023 is the year of the rabbit. The rabbit is the symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture, thus 2023 is predicted to be a year of hope. We certainly could use all of it. The Asian American Cultural Society held its dinner Saturday night in Chinatown celebrating the new year, honoring Local 3 Treasurer Damon Armstrong. Our Public Member of the Joint Industry Board, State Senator John Liu, was also in attendance, and I can’t tell you how great the event was and how happy we were to be back together again in person.
I want to also note that February 16, 1986 was the date Harry Van Arsdale Jr. passed away. 37 years since his death, and yet his work and impact on all that we enjoy as members of Local 3 continue to this day. He was truly a devout Trade Unionist and helped to better the lives of countless working men and women both in and outside of Local 3. Our foundation is strong, as his commitment to education has proved invaluable. Our ability to continue to move forward because of the strength of this organization and the values that have been ingrained in us as part of his legacy will endure forever. Thank you Harry, rest in peace.
